A basic function of Sheriffs is the security of the Courts within their jurisdiction. This includes both the physical plant as well as the safety of Judges, their staff, and visitors. The Courthouse front desk is manned by Deputy Sheriffs while the courthouse is open, providing a checkpoint for all entering the courtroom. While court is in session, Bailiffs (Deputy Sheriffs) and other law enforcement officers are present inside the courtrooms to maintain security.
